Tablet-based virtual showroom for visitors
The EcoDesign Center (EDC) in Sophia Antipolis is an eco-design resource centre. The centre’s originality lies in its showroom of eco-design products. Its purpose is to showcase sustainable development through specific examples of eco-design. Currently approximately fifty industrial products are on display. In September 2012, the EDC commissioned Infotel to implement an interactive automated online assistant (ANI). The final idea was to complement the physical product showroom with a virtual showroom, available on touch-screen tablets at the entrance to the showroom for visitors.
The automated online assistant (ANI) was developed in Android 4, designed for an Asus Transformer tablet, with a SQLite database. The application has two main features:
- a management interface for the “Product Information Sheet” database: the back-office is managed in Java (JSF/PrimeFaces) with a MySQL database,
- an Android mobile app: a QR Code scan function provides visitors with information on the products displayed by capturing the code shown on the products. A back-office is installed on a server to manage the contents of the tablet as well as to retrieve statistics on the visits generated by the tablet.
- Ease of operation of the database via an administration interface.
- Know-how and references in the same development area.
